The North Eastern Moorland
Perhaps the North Eastern Moorland is my very favourite area of the Peak District. It remains largely undiscovered, as there are practically no footpaths and it doesn't boast great landmarks and panoramic views. But you have miles of rolling heathland to yourself, and there are steep little valleys overflowing with beautiful woodland where people rarely tread. This is the landscape I picture when I here the word 'moor'. This photo, taken from Candlerush Edge, shows a shooting lodge on Broomhead moor. Shortly before I took it, a great band of hail came sweeping across the hillside in dramatic but disconcerting fashion. I was glad to see the little shooting lodge pictured here, and the inviting wooded valley! _________________________________________________
This picture has a pleasant freshness to it...it's up above Langsett Reservoir, near Cloudberry Moor some way further north.
Looking across the moors towards Black Hill; you may just be able to make out the Holme Moss television mast on the horizon.
