Mountain Hares
Mountain hares are pretty rare, and the Dark Peak is one of the best places to see them. In fact, if you walk quietly - and preferably alone - off the paths on the moors, you may well see quite a lot, and even trip over them. They are more like rabbits than hares really, but in the winter they grow white coats. Photographing them is tricky unless you are prepared to conceal yourself and wait around, with a good camera and a tripod. I wasn't, but a fairly dismal day held little potential for landscape photography, so I made a few efforts to capture the hares I stumbled upon before they sprinted away. If the hares are pretty indistinct, at least I have some nice pictures of moorland terrain. Hopefully I'll manage better someday!
